If you’re like me you peruse through Pinterest looking at awesome recipes, crafts or organizational tips to pin to your board and in a weird way you feel accomplished after you add it to your collection. “I’m totally going to paint my fingernails to look like peacock feathers but first I have to make a bow and arrow out of dental floss and a q-tip.”
I think we like Pinterest so much because it helps us visualize the type of person we want to be… stylish, fit, uber organized. I don’t know about you, but I rarely take the time to actually make the recipes or organize my tampon collection but the thought that I just MIGHT do it someday leaves me feeling satisfied.
This has been my crutch in weight loss. I don’t mean to brag but I do have a pretty amazing imagination or I’m just extremely delusional . This means I have no problem envisioning what I would look like if I had six pack abs or wore underwear to workout in that showed off my perfectly round, shiny, sweaty butt.
But if my before pictures have taught us anything it’s that I should NEVER workout in my underwear… just kidding. It teaches us that it’s not enough to just pin things to do for a later date. In order to live a fulfilled life you have to actually DO them.
On that note, I made a recipe that I had pinned on my Pinterest board and it was divine (Yes, girls from Texas are allowed to use that word). It was so pretty I had to take a picture of it.
Yeah, yeah… so I’m not a food blogger and I don’t have a big fancy camera but the food on that plate is a masterpiece. It is called Chipotle-Glazed Roast Chicken with Sweet Potatoes Butternut Squash. (I didn’t have sweet potatoes) I can’t tell you how yummy this was. The sweet, smoky, spicy combo blew my mind and to tell you the truth I think I’m going to have to stick to the butternut squash on this one because it tasted like candy with a slight kick… and we all know I love my candy.
Give this recipe a try or better yet make that mini bow and arrow… now that, my friends, is an accomplishment.
I hear ya! I drool all over my computer when scrolling through Pinterest, even though I’ll never actually achieve the picture-perfect cupcake or impeccable nail polish posted by other people. But I love your butternut squash — so vibrant!
Thanks Amy, it looks like I could stand to take a lesson on photography from you 🙂
Aww thank you! :] I’m really still an amateur — I only took 2 classes way back in high school! But it’s something I enjoy and I’m willing to work at to get better.
Nina I’m loving the blog! I can totally relate to the Pinterest post. Ha! I actually pinned the qtip bow and arrow. Who has time to even do that?!
Thanks, Carey! But you can pin whatever you want because I’ve seen pictures of some the awesome things you’ve managed to pull off.

First of all I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if
you don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to
15 minutes are lost simply just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
Many thanks!
Hey Parthenia my advice is to simply write. Write right away. Tell the truth, the first thing that comes to mind, unfiltered. (You can edit it later if you need to.) Sometimes what you have to say is utter crap and sometimes you find some hidden genius that you didn’t even know existed in your head. Good luck! And write on 😉
