As I walked to the scale this morning I thought of my previously cheerful self hurriedly making her way to the scale to record how awesome she is and I just wanted to stick my foot out and trip her.
This week instead of eagerly making my way to the scale I hung my head and dragged my feet as I thought…
Okay, so maybe I’m being a little dramatic.
I did what I do and got naked and stepped on the scale and it said… 211.2
Boo…. last week I weighed 211.6 so I’ve managed to shed a few ounces in a week.
I’ve known this week’s weigh-in was going to be less than spectacular because I only worked out twice. I also had a cheat day on Sunday that kind of trickled into Monday. Other than that I did a pretty good job this week of eating clean and drinking lots of water.
I’m drinking my coffee this morning as I type this and as pathetic as it is I’m secretly hoping it will get things moving so that I can step on the scale again and weigh a few more ounces less.
Too much? Yeah you’re right, that’s gross. Let’s pretend like I didn’t just say that.
Sunday was my first official “cheat” day and I was left wondering if cheat days are a good idea or not. There are many schools of thought but I stumbled upon this article called “Cheat Day- The Best Day of the Week that I found useful.
Do you use a cheat day, if so what are your guidelines? I would love to hear your opinions on it when you weigh in.
UPDATE: I now officially weight 210.8. We will not talk about what transpired to make this magical number happen.
Have a good day everyone!
Oh and here’s a little pep talk just in case your weigh-in didn’t go as planned. There’s nothing wrong with a little daily affirmation 🙂
I lost 0.8 this week…ounces as well. I too had a cheat day and even though I think it didnt “help” me, I think it helped me. It was soo good and then I did feel bad after eating that so I was back on track the next day. I think u are doing awesome though! A loss is a loss no matter how small. Good luck this week!!
I think we can round that up to a pound Melissa 😉 I felt guilty after I cheated too! Even though I had planned it out. I think I’m going to have to just get over it, guilt shouldn’t be allowed.
🙂 I depend on my coffee too 🙂 I lost no weight this week, but I DID take pics n was happy with what I saw! I try to keep my cheat MEALS to two a week. I TRY (usually fail) to keep the portions small…. But I like doing the meals diff days if the week. This allows me to b able to adjust if something goes on during the week n I can’t cook, or there is a potluck at wk etc… 🙂
That sounds like a good cheat plan, pot lucks can be hard to pass up. I’m taking my monthly picture next week. My body better have changed since that awful day after Christmas.
My first weigh-in and I lost 2.2 lbs from last week! I attribute that to water. I didn’t work out much, just watched what I ate. Also I started classes this week so I have less time to snack, and when I did it was a pre-made baggy of fruit that I put together last wkd. Next week, I will be working out more in my weight training class and on my own. So I’m looking forward to next weeks numbers! My goal is to lose 15 lbs by Memorial Day. Wish me luck! Also, I cheat like Brandi. A cheat meal here and there keeps me on track!
You can totally manage that Aly! Love you!!! And tell Case he’ll be getting a little something in the mail from his Aunt Nini soon 🙂
Ok so I was so worried too about getting on the scale…with 3 out of 4 kids plus me sick for the last week I didn’t workout once…just fluids, rest, and tons of prayers to get this Flu A junk OUT of my house! I did do pretty well on eating (even tried to convince my husband to go get ice crem after kids were in bed…I mean u can see the ice cream place from my front porch so if that’s not tempting then I don’t know what is lol…but we didn’t cheat)! I totally believe on “cheat moments”! If I didn’t have those, I wouldn’t survive! Like when u have run fever for 5 days, been cooped up, and everyone is sick…mommy gets a Mt Dew! Or when Owyn screamed for 5 days straight cause she was teething and miserably sick then Daddy knows to bring home lunch after work! Take out, from anywhere! 😉 All that to say, I actually lost 4lbs!!!!!!! Unbelievable but so thankful lol!
That’s amazing tTiffany! Hope you guys get better soon. We had a sick baby also… not fun!
Down 3 more lbs! 🙂 The plan is to lose 30 more by my birthday on August 7th.
You’ve totally got that Ashley!
Congrats!!!!! It’s amazing how our weight can change as we… Uh… You know.
Cheat days are actually pretty helpful for me; they always remind me how much better I feel when I DON’T eat like that!
Good point Carly, I’ll tell myself I’m just reminding my body how much it hates junk food when I start to feel guilty about my cheat day.
I’m late to the game here since last time I tried to stand on a scale it said this: IIIIIIIIIIIII. Too small to read so I have a new DIGITAL scale now and it says that I have 8 pounds to lose. And I went for a run this morning at 5:15am even though the stars were still out and the coyotes were calling really close by and I feel better. It sucked deep fried ass, but I DO feel better so maybe I should do that more often. Oh and instead of coffee, would you please try my idea and have a Slim Fast shake for breakfast? That stuff is loaded with fiber, seriously. Then you can have real actual food at 9:30am or something and it’ll taste way better since you’ll be starving by then. I’m pretty impressed that you didn’t stress eat your way through this last week with crying Penelope and all, so well done for not gaining- that’s of equal if not greater value in my mind.
Oh Cate, I was “this” close to eating my way through the cranky baby business. Then I wen to bootcamp today where I proceeded to look like a turtle stuck on it’s back so that I could justify my cheat day today.
down and ounce or few is still down! winner in my book. And Go Coffee!
Cheat day – sometimes it’s what gets me through the week. Even if I don’t “cheat” I take a break from logging my food and counting calories. Tomorrow is my daughter’s 7th birthday and I have kept my eye on the prize by making healthy choices and training hard in the gym. I want do have the confidence that I earned the burn and now I can reward with cake. A few years ago I did a figure competition and then the next season took it one step further and did bodybuilding. Amazing experience and I’ll never forget it, but honestly don’t know if I want to subject myself to such a strict training regimine. For 12 weeks there were no cheat days, no rewards of those naugthy delectible. Oh sure I could amp up on oatmeal and sweet potatoes on one of the weekend days but still had to count every carb, protein and fat gram. Let’s not forget the ruthless workout schedule and daily weigh in. Nope, see just typed all and I’m exhausted.
I believe in rewards for a job well done. If not a latte or piece of pie, maybe a new shirt or even spring for a pair of shoes. I can feel my mind & body recharge and scream THANK YOU for refueling me. Come monday I’m ready to take on a new week and see how some of the WODs can get the best of me.
You seem balanced in so many ways and that’s that’s a thumb’s up if I do say.
I’ve totally done the” try to go to the bathroom thing and weigh again” thing. I am down .4 this week. Took a bootcamp class on Tuesday night that rendered me unable to walk or sit down easily until last night. So I wasn’t expecting a miracle. Got back on the horse today at Spin class this morning – We shall see what next week brings! Cheers!
I allow myself one cheat day a week, and by cheat day, I mean cheat meal. I go out for a meal once a week and have whatever my little heart desires, within reason. For example, today I went out for lunch with a friend, and rather than getting an appetizer, meal, AND dessert, I just got the appetizer. That was more than enough to satisfy me. And I am still under my daily calorie count. I will have little mini treats throughout the week, like a little piece of candy or chocolate. But very sparingly and not enough to impact my day. It seems to be working well for me so far. Down over 10 lbs in under 3 weeks. 🙂
Something that worked amazingly for me allowing me to drop about 60 pounds in about 8 months was zig zagging calories. The idea is you figure out how many calories you need to maintain your weight. Then you eat 600-800 less than that for 2 days, one day at your maintain, and repeat. As you lose weight you adjust your maintain calories and your low day calories. This keeps your body from thinking its starving and thus keeps your metabolism up. It also makes it easier to eat well on your low cal days because when you get a craving for something you know you only have I wait a day or two to have it. Sometimes by that day you don’t even want it anyway :). It’s a technique that was taught to me by a body builder and I had lasting results.
Thanks for sharing Natalie! That sounds like a solid plan.
